The person behind Villipihlaja is Karoliina Laitinen, a dancer gone wild! Sustainability, responsibility, and respect for the nature are the core values of the company. Let our Finnish nature and forests do their magic and take your stress away! In spring, the nature experience is having a special form. There might still be snow in the forest, for example. This is why the experience might be a bit modified, according to the weather.
Info: You will be walking along forest trails, so there is some snow on the ground. We recommend weather- appropriate and forest-friendly clothing, as well as dressing in layers. Take good winter shoes with you. There is no bathroom in the forest.
16.00-18.00 Floating sauna, sauna whisking & cold-water swimming
IG: @visittampereofficial; @saunalauttaristeilyt; @koskisiiri
Tampere – The Sauna Capital of the World – welcomes everybody to its cosy warmth! Did you know there are almost 60 public saunas in Tampere and the surrounding region for anyone to relax in, throughout the year? The status as the Sauna Capital is based on saunas being of high level and Tampere being home to most public saunas in Finland. The history of the sauna culture in the city goes back to the oldest public sauna still functioning: Rajaportti Sauna in the district of Pispala, Tampere.
Traditional sauna bathing is an intangible sauna culture rooted in Finnish folk traditions. It brings to life the diversity of the Finnish sauna experience. One of the central elements of traditional sauna bathing is the use of birch whisks, “vihta” in Finnish. Sauna spells and songs are also integral components of traditional sauna bathing. The essential part of a traditional sauna experience is the therapeutic use of birch whisks. It is primarily a preventive, relaxing, and cleansing experience, combining elements of massage, herbal medicine, and aromatherapy. The effects of birch whisking include stress relief, improved sleep quality, increased metabolism, and enhanced surface blood circulation. It improves joint mobility and aids muscle recovery. Today, we’ll enjoy the traditional sauna healing with Siiri Koski.
Today’s sauna experience takes place in a special setting. Floating sauna takes you along serene waters while indulging in the cozy warmth of a traditional Finnish sauna. Immerse yourself in nature's beauty as you unwind on the floating raft, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes of Tampere’s lakes. Let the soothing heat of the sauna melt away your stress as you enjoy refreshing dips in the cool waters.
Remember to take your swimming suits & flip-flops with you. Towels are provided.
