Arrival at Xwander Nordic’s wilderness camp in Rahajärvi, Inari
Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by a local professional guide who will introduce us to the secrets of traditional net fishing. This authentic experience offers a fascinating insight into Finland’s fishing heritage and the close connection between local people and nature. We will also learn how to handle fish and prepare it the Finnish way over an open fire. The highlight of the visit is a simple but delicious wilderness lunch enjoyed by the campfire. Surrounded by the peaceful Arctic wilderness, this meal provides a true taste of Lapland’s outdoor traditions and culinary culture.

10:00–13:15 River Rafting on River Juutua with Luontoloma
Get ready for an exhilarating rafting experience on the River Juutua! Our adventure begins at the beautiful Lake Solojärvi, where we’ll launch our rubber raft. We’ll paddle along the lake and into the river, known for its trout and as a home river for the Inari Sámi people. Along the way, we’ll navigate two major white-water rapids and several smaller streams. We’ll pause for a lunch break by the scenic Ritakoski Rapids. A meal enjoyed outdoors is an essential part of the Finnish outdoor tradition, so we’ll gather around an open campfire to savour a hearty homemade soup while taking in the peaceful sounds and beauty of the rushing water.

Named as European Museum of the Year 2024 and Finland’s Museum of the Year 2024. During our guided tour, we’ll gain a deeper understanding of Sámi culture and how it’s intertwined with the natural world in northern Lapland. Afterward, you’ll have some free time to visit the museum shop, which offers a wide variety of local Sámi handicrafts.

15:00–17:00 Visit to Tuula’s reindeer
Our local hostess will greet us and take us to the reindeer corral, where we’ll learn about the traditional practice of reindeer herding, an important livelihood in Lapland for centuries. We’ll have the chance to feed the reindeer and take photos with them. Afterward, we’ll visit the hostess's home, where she’ll share insights into Sámi handicrafts, such as the making of traditional reindeer-hide boots, and teach us how local plants are used to dye wool in the vibrant colors of Lapland’s summer and autumn. These dyes are then used to create beautiful handmade blankets, socks, and mittens.

With around 3.2 million saunas across the country, sauna culture is deeply rooted in Finnish life and remains an important part of everyday wellbeing. No visit to Finland is truly complete without experiencing this cherished tradition for yourself. We’ll have the chance to experience both traditional and modern saunas in a stunning natural setting. Relax in a panoramic glass‑roof sauna with an outdoor jacuzzi, taking in beautiful views of the surrounding wilderness. We’ll also enjoy a classic wood‑heated barrel sauna by the river, perfect for a traditional sauna session followed by a refreshing dip in the clear river water.

Inspired by the flavours of Lapland, the menu showcases carefully selected local ingredients cooked over an open flame. With a little luck, we may also witness the Northern Lights dancing on the sky, as autumn is one of the best seasons to experience this magical natural phenomenon in Lapland.

We hop on e-bikes and together with Lapland Safaris we will explore the surroundings of Saariselkä, including a visit to Urho Kekkonen National Park – Finland’s second-largest and one of its most popular national parks. This adventure offers a fantastic way to experience the beauty of Lapland. Along the way, we’ll enjoy stunning fell landscapes and peaceful northern nature that leave a lasting impression. The excursion concludes at the top of Kaunispää Fell, where our lunch is served.
