Starting from Inkerinaukio, the Mellonlahti nature trail runs through Valtionhotelli Park to the rapids and then follows the shore down to Mellonlahti. The nature trail is about 3 km long and has 22 checkpoints. Today, Mellonlahti is isolated from the Vuoksi River by an embankment and forms its own biotic community since the waters of the Vuoksi River do not flow through it. 

The starting information board is located in the park next to Inkerinaukio.

Take a walk in the Kruununpuisto Park – the oldest nature reserve in Finland along the banks of the rapids. Historical pavilions, rock engravings, giant kettles and several other interesting places to visit.

Lammassaari itself is a beautiful ridge island that was formed after the Ice Age at the same time as the First Salpausselkä. The Lammassaari Nature Trail is a scenic 3.7 km circular trail, winding through forests and along the shores of Lake Saimaa. As part of the Saimaa UNESCO Global Geopark, you can admire beautiful lake views here, get to know more about the Ice Age geology, or have a break at the picnic spots along the way.

The winery is complemented by the iconic Hermanni Wine Tower, situated in a former water tower overlooking the forests and hills of Ilomantsi. The unique setting offers panoramic views across the Karelian landscape and provides an exceptional place to enjoy local products.

Highlights include the Rune Singer's House, where visitors can learn about the centuries-old tradition of rune singing and kantele music, both of which played a central role in preserving Karelian oral culture. Visitors can also explore the Border General's Cabin, dedicated to the military history of the region, a traditional Orthodox chapel reflecting the area's cultural influences, and the Mesikkä Animal Museum, which illustrates the close relationship between local people and nature.

Finnish zither player Katja Malinen will meet you at Rune Singer's cottage. Your tour starts with a Finnish zither playing followed by a short tour around the museum. Lunch is flexibly between 11:00-12:00.

Designed for both professional photographers and nature enthusiasts, the well-equipped hides combine comfort with immersion in the wilderness. Visitors can experience the silence of the boreal forest while witnessing the remarkable biodiversity of eastern Finland from a respectful and sustainable distance.

The experience starts from Keljänpuro Lodge at 14:00 with briefing and welcome coffee. At around 15:00 you’ll move to the observation hide. Your stay includes briefing, welcome briefing, snacks, sleeping bag rental and breakfast. Camping food provisions are provided for your stay.

Please note! Dress appropriately for the weather. Bring your own camera, binoculars and recording equipment. We recommend to bring your own snacks, but to avoid crunchy and strongly smelling food items.

Nestled in the peaceful lakeside and forest landscape near Lieksa, Paateri is the remarkable artist home, studio and creative legacy of renowned Finnish sculptor Eva Ryynänen (1915–2001). Known for her expressive woodcarvings and deep connection to nature, Ryynänen created a unique cultural destination where art, architecture and the surrounding wilderness form a harmonious whole. Paateri offers visitors an intimate insight into the life and work of one of Finland's most celebrated wood sculptors. The site includes the artist's home, studio, gallery café and the extraordinary Paateri Church, completed in 1991 and considered Ryynänen's greatest masterpiece. Throughout the area, her distinctive artistic style is visible in intricate wooden sculptures, hand-crafted architectural details and the seamless integration of art with the natural environment.

Located in the centre of Koli village, Kolin Ryynänen is a popular gastropub and gathering place that combines authentic North Karelian hospitality, locally sourced food and craft beer culture in a traditional red-painted log building. Situated close to Koli National Park, it offers visitors a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere that reflects the character of the region.
